Bharatanatyam - Varnam and Keerthanam
This DVD takes you to the next level of a unique Bharatanatyam style deeply rooted in the illustrious Pandanallur style that inspired Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale, the founder of Kalakshetra to create a structured curriculum and standardize the teaching methods. Based on this technique which went on to become a distinctive genre in itself as the Kalakshetra bani, it presents Varnam, a colorful component in which the nritta, nritya and natya elements are finely juxtaposed and Keerthanam, a descriptive devotional piece that provides immense creative scope for a performing artiste. Performed by Kalakshetra students in the sylvan surroundings of their alma mater, it sincerely captures the spirit and style of the institution. Each piece is preceded by a lucid introduction by a Kalakshetra faculty member which is at once educative and informative.
